Training on low cost nutrient recipes for farm women and children

The ICAR-Krishi  Vigyan Kendra, N & M Andaman, organized a three-day training programme for practicing farm women from July 24 to 26 on “low cost nutrient dense recipes for farm women and children” at, Duke Nagar, N & M Andaman. The training was inaugurated in the presence of up-pradhan, Shri Prasanta Biswas, Dr. B.L Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK,N & M Andaman ,Smt. Ilabati Biswas, Teacher  In-Charge, Govt. Primary School,PRI members and others. In his  inaugural speech Shri. Prasanta Biswas, motivated the participants to adopt correct feeding practices to improve the nutritional status and well being  of their family, at the same time appreciated KVK for providing this opportunity to the most needy section of the society .Dr.Pooja Kapoor, SMS(Home Science) course coordinator of the programme briefed the gathering about the objectives and intended outcome of the programme.
Dr. B.L Kasinath ,emphasized upon knowledge of healthy eating and its crucial role in mitigating malnutrition cannot be ignored and highlighted the role of vegetables in our daily diet. Dr.Shailesh Kumar SMS (Fisheries) discussed the nutritive value of fishes for achieving optimal health for all. Dr.Pooja Kapoor discussed about the importance of staying healthy by consuming a balanced diet and means of providing low cost nutritious food to the entire family. Dr. Shardul V.Lal, SMS (Animal Sc.) briefed about benefits of consuming animal food in our diet. Film show on topics related to health and hygiene were also screened for the participants.  Preparation of low cost nutrient dense recipes for infants & preschoolers were demonstrated during the programme. Shri. Jayanta Nag, Pradhan , Swadesh Nagar, the Chief guest of  valedictory session, requested the participants to utilize and apply the knowledge gained during the programme at household level and urged to disseminate the same among neighbors.
Earlier, Shri .B.L Meena, SMS (Agronomy) welcomed the gathering and Shri. D.Basantia, SMS (Horticulture) proposed the vote of thanks.A total of 25 farm and farm women participated and benefitted from the training programme. The training programme was performed under the supervision and guidance of Dr. B. L. Kashinath, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Nimbudera and Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
