Training on scientific dairy farming at Garacharma

The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, CIARI is organizing training programme on “Scientific dairy farming and value addition in milk” in association  with National Co-operative Union of India (NCUI) for Self Help Group(SHG) leaders at Sangita Tailoring & Fashion Designing Institute, Garacharma from Tuesday.  Altogether, 30 SHG leaders are attending the programme. The training was inaugurated by  Dr. A. Kundu, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair as the Chief Guest on 18.9.2018. in the inaugural address he emphasized the need of value addition in milk to meet the target of doubling farmers income by 2022. He exhorted the women farmers to adopt the dairy farming practices by following the scientific methods available at ICAR-CIARI.
Dr. Nagesh Ram, Sr. Scientist & Head , ICAR-KVK, Port Blair discussed the role and activities of KVK for women empowerment and advised the trainees to reap the maximum benefit from the training programme. Sh. S.N. Singh, Project Officer, NCUI, Port Blair presented an overview of activities of SHG farmers in Andaman’s. The financial literacy among the trainees was imparted by Smt. Shalija Chander, Branch Manager, Women’s Co-Operative Bank, Garacharma.  Dr. Debasis Bhattacharya, HOD I/C, Animal Science Division explained the various activities of Animal Sciences Division of the Institute and throw a light on the various value added products obtained from milk and other animal produces.
Dr. N.C.Choudhuri, the course Co-coordinator of programme described about the training programme and emphasized the procedure development of products from milk. The training is being organized on the method of “learning by doing” Dr. Jai Sunder, Pr. Scientist and Dr. S.K. Ravi, Scientist have also spoken on the benefits of dairy farming and value addition during the inaugural function. Other resource persons for the said programme are Er. B.K Nanda, SMS,Ag. Eng., Sh. N Bommayasamy, SMS, Dr. Harapriya Nayak, SMS, Home Science and Dr.V,K.Pandey SMS. Earlier Er. B.K.Nanda welcomed the gathering and the experts whereas vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Harapriya Nayak.
