Facing flak from the local media and commuters for poor maintenance of bus stands in the city, the Municipal Council has reportedly handed over the facilities to the State Transport Department. According to reports, the Transport Department  is now formulating a comprehensive plan to renovate the dilapidated bus stands in the city to match standards at par with other big cities in the country.  According to reports, the civic body handed over the facilities to the Transport Department around six months ago. The Transport Department is presently in the process of identifying important bus stands in the city for the revamp plan.
“It’s a welcome step that the Municipal Council has handed over the bus stands to the Transport Department. Commuters have been long suffering due to the poor state of the facilities in almost every part of the city. Now included in the Smart City project, Port Blair deserves to have modern bus stands. It is expected that the Transport Department will initiate immediate steps to renovate the bus stands in the interest of commuters,” said a resident of Dollygunj.
