Tree plantation on Van Mahotsav

As part of the month-long celebration of  68th Van Mahotsav, the Botanical Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre conducted a tree planting programme at Govt. Middle School, Guptapara to create awareness among the students and general public of these islands about the importance of trees and life. The function began with a tree planting by Deputy Director,BSI, Dr. Lal Ji Singh and Gram Pradhan, Guptapara, Smt. AppalNarshamma.
In his address, the Deputy Director appreciated the school children, staff and all participants of the event. He emphasized the importance of tree and life and also highlighted about origin of life on earth and also mentioned the role of plants since the beginning of life and also briefed about global warming, blackhole, etc. Deputy Director urged the school children and local people to create more awareness about multiplication and conservation of tree species. The awareness programme was enthusiastically participated by a large number of school students, teachers, staff, PRI members, Guptapara. Officers and staff of BSI and planted several rare, endangered, endemic and economically important species. Smt. Appal Narshamma, Gram Pradhan, Guptapara and Dr. Sanjay Mishra, Scientist-B, BSI also emphasized the importance of trees. Earlier, Sri Ramashwer Ghosh, Headmaster, Govt. Middle School welcomed the gathering. Smt. DipaliVaishnov, teacher, Govt. Middle School proposed the vote of thanks.
