Strong winds last Monday caused extensive damages to the house of one M Hamza, a resident of Phoenix Bay in the city. Five coconut trees collapsed on his residence at around 11.30 pm destroying the roof and five water storage tanks in the house. Fire fighting team and the Councillor of the area reached the spot to stake stock of the situation. The fire team cleared the debris using necessary equipments. M Hamza, however, claims that the district administration has still not provided any compensation to his family.
“Fire fighters responded to the situation in time to clear the debris after the accident, but big stems of the trees still remain unattended in front of my residence. I have suffered huge losses after trees, which stood on an adjacent plot, collapsed on my home. I hope that the administration will act promptly and grant adequate compensation for the losses incurred due to the natural disaster,” says Mr Hamza.
