The spat between Adhyaksha of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Baby Fareeda and Reporter of The Phoenix Post (TPP), Razia Begum on November 25 this year, which ended in police complaints registered by either parties, is gaining storm with every passing day. Addressing a press conference on Friday, Baby Fareeda levelled further allegations against Razia Begum accusing her of using blackmailing tactics by planting false and fabricated stories against the former in the newspaper, The Phoenix Post. “At Police Station Pahargaon, I did not lose my cool and tolerated the maltreatment meted out by the Reporter. When I heard the Reporter asking someone for a photograph of my house and also threatened to destroy my political career, I immediately called the Editor of the newspaper to inform him about the incident. But I was later shocked to go through the November  29  edition of the newspaper, The Phoenix Post, in which concocted allegations were levelled against me only with the intention to tarnish my reputation as a political leader and public representative. I want all of this to stop at once. During my entire political career, I have never faced such a situation,” said Baby Fareeda
During the press meet, Baby Fareeda also presented copy of a complaint lodged by her to the Lt. Governor with copies marked to the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and Secretary (IP) requesting action against Razia Begum in order to refrain her from publishing false, baseless and defamatory articles against public representatives. “Razia Begum has threatened to write to the Prime Minister of India, senior Union Ministers and the Lt. Governor against me and tarnish my image in the eyes of the masses. She is known to be in the habit of defying the basis ethics of journalism and has made derogatory remarks in a newspaper article recently against the former Adhyaksh of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman,” claimed Baby Fareeda in the complaint.
On November 25  Adhyaksha of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, Smt Baby Fareeda registered an NCFIR against Razia Begum at Police Station, Pahargaon. In the statement to the Police, Smt Fareeda said that on November 25, she along with a Gram Pradhan approached the Police Station, Pahargaon for settlement of a family dispute between Abdul Majeed, resident of Bambooflat and his spouse, Rehanath Bibi, a resident of Calicut, where the latter’s in-laws including her husband and sister, Razia Begum, were also present. The case was related to impropriety on the part of the Abdul Majeed, who allegedly had an extra-marital affair. But after Baby Fareeda reached the Police Station, Razia Begum, sister of Abdul Majeed, started abusing the Adhyaksha publicly in the presence of the police personnel. She asked her to like ‘Get out’ ‘Get Lost’ from the place as the Adhyaksha had no locus standi in the family dispute. “Razia Begum, being a newspaper Reporter, should have shown some sense of dignity and responsibility in dealing with the dispute irrespective of the fact that the matter was related to her brother. Instead, she boasted of being a Reporter and threatened all PRI members present at the spot with dire consequences and hurled persistent  abuses on us,” said Baby Fareeda in the complaint to the Lt. Governor.
