V’ball tourney for Teressa women held

As a part of community policing initiative involving women, Nicobar District police conducted a one-day volleyball tournament for women in the far-flung area of Teressa Island on July 23. A total of four teams participated from various villages of Teressa Island and a lot of spectators including government officers and villagers witnessed the event. The tournament was declared open by Shri. Albertus, SRO Teressa. The Enam village team won the tournament while Kalasi village team secured the runner up trophy. After the event  an awareness programme on POCSO Act was also held. The in-charge of Police Station Teressa,SI Somen Kumar Halder delivered a lecture on the important provisions of POCSO and the remedies available to the victims under the Act.  A short film “Komal” was also screened. The entire event was conducted under the supervision of SP(D) Nicobar Shri. Deepak Yadav, IPS. The A&N Police has started an initiative to create more awareness on the subject of women empowerment and community policing especially in the Nicobar District. The general public is requested to pass information about any kind of crimes against women and children to Police without hesitation or fear.
