Winter School by ICAR-CIARI

An Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi sponsored 21 day Winter School on ‘Developments in Organic farming in Tropical Islands of India’ is being organised from 7th  to 27th November 7 to 27 at  ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The chief guest Mr. Anindo Majumdar, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration will inaugurate the  programme at 11. 30 am on November  7 at Dr. N. T. Singh Conference Hall of CIARI.  Dr. A. Kundu, Director (Acting) of CIARI will preside over the function.  Heads of the Development Department, A & N Administration will  participate in the inauguration programme.
The winter school, is first of its kind which is organised by Dr. B, Gangaiah, and Head, Division of Natural Resource Management (NRM) as Course Director and Dr. K. Abirami, Scientist, Horticulture & Forestry and Dr. S. Swain, Scientist, NRM divisions as course coordinators under the overall supervision and guidance of Dr. A. Kundu,  Director (Acting), CIARI, Port Blair. A total of 25 trainees in the rank of Assistant professor / scientist / subject matter specialists from state agricultural universities / ICAR Institute from mainland representing Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and A & N Islands are participating. During the training programme, trainees will be imparted with the latest developments in organic farming by experts from CIARI and also from mainland. Field visits to organic farmers and farms are also being made by the trainees.
