Women Farmer’s Day celebrated

The Department of Agriculture, South Andaman in association with Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) has organised Women Farmers Day on Monday at Beodnabad Panchayat hall with the objective of women empowerment in the country.  
Smti. Shanti Vardharajan, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Beodnabad was the chief guest and inaugurated the progamme. Shri. Bhoomi, Sarpanch & Smt. Rekha, Ward Member were present to witness the programme.
Mr M.M. Hassan, Agriculture Officer welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of the day. He explained the paramount role of farm women in the society as well as in keeping farmer’s family healthy & wealthy.        
Smti. Sunanda Bachar, Agriculture Assistant explained about the Centrally Sponsored Schemes and how the schemes will be relevant in increasing the income of the farm women. She further discussed about the pros & cons of using inorganic pesticides.
Mr Niranjan Das, Technical Assistant, High Value Agriculture, South Andaman briefed about the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture Schemes and requested women farmer’s to take up Area Expansion Programme of Fruits, Flowers & Spices under National Horticulture Scheme (NHM) and pool out  maximum benefit from it.            
During the programme three successful women farmer of Rangachang village namely Smti. Suman Patra, Smti. Bhanumati & Smti. Durga Devi shared their field experiences with their fellow farmers. They said that after the intervention of Agriculture Department their socio economic life has been improved. They availed subsidy from NHM schemes.
Smti. Shanti Vardharajan, Pradhan in her address appreciated Agriculture Department for organizing the event in her Panchayat. She urged lady farmers to avail benefits from all the schemes available with the department. She further told that one should not hesitate or feel shy to do any kind of work, be proud and try to become a model for your family. Other than agriculture, allied sector schemes shall also be adopted as per one’s convenience. Altogether 45 farm women participated in the programme with great zeal & enthusiasm.
Earlier, Smt. Babita Bachchan, Agriculture Assistant briefed about the role of women in Agriculture. Smti. Seema, BTM proposed the vote of thanks.
