Workshop on Intl Humanitarian Law concludes

The Indian Coast Guard conducted a workshop on International Humanitarian Law by International Committee of Red Cross team consisting of Wing commander Praful Bakshi, Mr Fahad Ahamed and Mr Tulsi Das here. The three-day workshop provided an overview of International Humanitarian Law, Laws of Naval warfare, and Laws of Maritime security while dealing with migrants. The workshop during the course of its conduct dabbled upon various subjects like ethical means and methods of warfare, proper usage of weapons and sensible way of conducting operations at sea. The course deliberated upon the basic rules of target discrimination, which is most essential while conducting operations.
Inspector General KR Suresh TM, Commander, Coast Guard Region (A&N) addressed the participants on the closing ceremony and encouraged the participants to implement the things in their career that they have learnt in the workshop.  The scope of legal evaluation of the existing Maritime Laws  vis-a-vis. UNCLOS and how it enables in implementing the International Humanitarian Law which compliments the existing laws that governs Indian Coast Guard to exercise their powers while performing their duties beyond territorial waters.
