Rampant invitation received on WhatsApp : ‘Momo’ scare grips north Bengal districts

‘Momo’ scare gradually goes viral at different parts of North Dinajpur and Malda as virtual invitations to play the deadly game are being sent to people of all ages using WhatsApp.
A school teacher, Purna Chandra Pal of Shanti Nagar Colony in Islampur sub division of North Dinajpur panicked after he received on his mobile-phone an invitation to participate in ‘Momo’ game.
Scared with the link to play the game sent on his mobile phone Pal lodged a complaint with the police.
“I received a message from an odd number last night. The picture of the sender was like the image of ‘Momo’ as I have already seen. I did not open the message out of scare and lodged a complaint with Islampur police station,” Pal said.
A similar invitation was sent to Abdul Aziz of Naoda area under English Bazaar police station on Tuesday evening. Aziz was frightened too and lodged a complaint with police.
Notably, a 19-year old youth from Dui Shato Bighi village under Kaliachak police station Akram Ali received invitation to play ‘Momo’ on Monday night. Although he switched off his mobile phone after being threatened to be killed in 12 hours in case he had refused to play the game, the invitation flashed again soon after he restarted his phone on Tuesday morning.
Finally, Ali, who studies Ayurveda in a college under Al Ammen Mission lodged a complaint with Kaliachak police station yesterday.
It may be mentioned that panic gripped Kaliaganj town also a couple of days ago when a teenager was suspected to have responded to invitation sent to him for playing ‘momo.’ His parents immediately sought police intervention to deter him from playing the game.
Although DIG (CID) assures the citizens not to panick over ‘Momo’ game, the scare is gradually gripping the two districts as invitations for playing the deadly game are being rampantly sent to WhatsApp users.
