Upset over battered and pothole-laden roads, villagers of  Dasarathpur here have petitioned the government authorities demanding immediate remedial measures. A joint petition signed by around 100 villagers  was submitted to the Assistant Commissioner of Rangat recently and also  met the Zilla Parishad member, Ms Prabhawati Biswas. The Pradhan of Dashrathpur Panchayat, Mr Rangalal Halder was also present on the occasion.
In the letter, the villagers demanded immediate commencement of rural road work. “Villagers here have been facing extreme hardships for the past several years due to the poor road network. The project of the Zilla Parishad, North and Middle Andaman has been hanging fire for the past many years over forest dispute. The administration should take necessary steps to resolve the dispute and order immediate start of construction of the road from Dasarathpur bridge to Manoranjan Baroi house,” the villagers said in the representation.
The Echo of India has routinely  highlighted how battered roads was inviting public ire from villagers of Dasrathpur and Shanti Basti in Middle Andaman. Besides pedestrians, the uneven and eroded village roads have become a source of torment for motorists as many of them have complained of  frequent falls in the recent past. Despite repeated pleas, no government agency has initiated any steps to provide respite to the affected  population of the region.
