As if rising prices of petroleum products was not enough, inordinate delay in disbursal of direct benefit or cash transfer in bank accounts as subsidy for domestic gas cylinder (LPG) has added to the woes of the consumers in Middle Andaman (MA). According to reports, hundreds of LPG consumers in the Middle Andaman region have been deprived of the subsidy benefit for more than a year now fuelling anger among the population. Alleging serious mismanagement in the functioning of the concerned agencies, LPG customers here claim that they have failed miserably to provide competent services to the population besides extending timely benefits of the subsidy scheme.
“There are hundreds of consumers in different parts of the Middle Andaman region. Of them, majority of the only 150-200 consumers receive the LPG subsidy in time whereas the rest of the population don’t receive the LPG subsidy in time and remain deprived of the benefit. Though consumers here have already submitted their Aadhar details, Bank account numbers to the agency, the inordinate delay in disbursal of LPG subsidy is inviting serious flak for the management of CCS,” said some villagers of Rangat.
“It was back in 2017 when EOI reported about tardy disbursal of LPG subsidy to consumer in Middle Andaman that prompted the Consumer Cooperative Stores Ltd. to take necessary steps after which beneficiaries in the Middle Andaman region received their subsidies in their bank accounts. However, more than a year has passed and LPG customers are again facing a harrowing time over inordinate delay in disbursal of direct benefit or cash transfer in bank accounts as subsidy for domestic gas cylinder (LPG). The agency should take a strong note of the situation and embark on remedial measures to ensure timely disbursal of LPG subsidy,” they added.
