World Soil Day by ICAR KVK

ICAR-KVK (CIARI), Nimbudera celebrated World Soil Day on Dec5 at Dharmapur, Sansad Adarse Gram Shivpuram Panchayat, N & M Andaman. Exhibits from KVK and line departments showcasing the activities related to soil health management were displayed. It was inaugurated by Ms. Kalpana Bain, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, N&M Andaman in presence of Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI, Port Blair, Mr. Lorentus Bara, Pradhan, Shivapuram, Dr. S. K. Zamir Ahmed, Principal Scientist & Head, Social Science Division, CIARI, PRI members and others. Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist and Head, KVK welcomed all and highlighted the details of programme and the significance of World Soil Day. Ms. Bain spoke on the importance of soil health maintenance for sustainable agriculture and requested the farmers to minimize the use of pesticides and inorganic fertilizers in agriculture for better human health. Mr. Bara thanked KVK/ CIARI for organizing such a good programme and requested farmers to make use of knowledge and information gained from it.  Dr. Kundu discussed about recent advances in CIARI research and highlighted the soil heath cards in maintaining soil nutrient status.  Mr. Uttam Mondal, Pradhan, Harinagar emphasised the role of soil as farmer’s livelihood and ‘annadata’. Mr. A. T. Rao, Member, Zilla Parishad urged the farmers to take up organic farming for upholding soil fertility. The technical was chaired by Dr. Kundu, Director and co-chaired by Dr. Zamir and Dr. Kasinath where they discussed about impact of CIARI technology and its dissemination, Soil Health Cards and its interpretation, Schemes of GOI and Agri. Dept, ANI for the benefit of the farmers, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, role of ATMA in technology dissemination and soil sample collection method demonstration. The resource persons for the technical session were Dr. S. K. Zamir Ahmed, Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Mr. Dilip Kumar, Asst. Director (Agri), Rangat, Dr. Shailesh Kumar, SMS (Fisheries), Mr. Sanjib Kr. Singh, AA, Dept. of Agriculture. 175 farmers from N & M Andaman district participated. Soil Health Cards were distributed during the programme to farmers.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. B. L. Meena, Dr. Pooja Kapoor, Er. Manoj Kumar, Mr. D. Basantia and Mr. Tanmai Paul under the supervision and guidance  of Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK, N & M Andaman  and Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI, Port Blair.
