Tour operators’ committee in Sikkim play good samaritan, help tourist group in distress

Members of the Sikkim Rural Tourism Development Commitee on Saturday played good samaritan and helped a group of tourists from Kolkata a member of which had suddenly fallen ill. The committee members, representing Sikkim in the 5th Gitanjali Mango Festival, were on their way to Siliguri.
On their way to Siliguri, when they were informed that a woman member of the group of tourists was feeling uneasy, as responsible citizens they took her to the Rangpo PHC, but the woman was declared brought dead. A team comprising committee presidenet G. M. Gurung and executive members Suresh Lama, Tenzing Sherpa, Basant Gurung and Sandeep Chettri played a vital role in helping the guests with essential formalities at the hospital, the police station and finally in lthe transfer of the body to Siliguri.
Talking to this correspondent co-ordinator Suresh Lama said the team members had taken by heart the message from Chief Minister Pawan Chamling that Sikkim was a tourist-friendly state and tourists should be helped and supported in whatever they needed.
The Sikkim Rural Tourism Development Committee participated in the festival being held at City Centre, Uttarayan, Siliguri, to promote new rural tourist destinations in Sikkim and homestays and hotels in the state. Members of the committee represented diferent parts of Sikkim. (EOIC)
