Assam Guv's bodyguards hurt in road mishap

Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit's security convoy was involved in an accident in Meghalaya today, in which five of his bodyguards were injured, police said.
Purohit, who is also the Governor in-charge of Meghalaya, was unharmed, a Raj Bhavan official said. The accident occurred in Mawiong area when the convoy was heading towards the Shillong Raj Bhavan, Governor's principal secretary KN Kumar told newspersons. Kumar said the vehicle carrying the bodyguards which followed the Governor's vehicle overturned while trying to avoid a pick-up van coming from the opposite direction.
According to him, three of the bodyguards have been admitted to the Civil Hospital, while the others have been discharged after first aid."The Governor was with them (injured bodyguards) in the hospital," he said. The Meghalaya Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to find out what caused the accident.
