Union minister of state (MOS) for electronics and Information Technology Surendrajeet Singh Ahluwalia said that only a CBI probe would reveal the truth behind the death of two students at Daribhita high school in North Dinajpur.
Ahluwalia, while briefing the media in Siliguri today said that the chief minister Mamata Banerjee and education minister Partha Chatterjee were hiding the truth to save the image of the government. “Student-movement has a long history. We protested against police firing at regional engineering college in Durgapur when we were students there. Mamata Banerjee and Partha Chatterjee joined our movement then against the then Left Front government. Now they are concealing the police atrocity which is a surprise for me,” the minister said.
State BJP president Dilip Ghosh also demanded CBI probe while addressing a public meeting in South Dinajpur today. “The family members of Rajesh Sarkar and Tapas Barman are right in demanding thje CBI probe. Citizens of the state have no trust in Trinamool Congress run state government and police,” Ghosh said. Meanwhile the student-strike convened by four Leftist students’ associations and BJP’s student-wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) remained peaceful except stray incidents.
Although many educational institutions were closed for Muharram, the student-activists picketed in front of schools and colleges which were open today. Police arrested few picketers. BJP and CPM supporters blocked roads at different places protesting against killing of Rajesh Sarkar and Tapas Barman today also. (EOIC)
