Brihattor Siliguri Nagarik Mancha reemphasizes demand for metropolitan court

3 Sep 2018

Greater Siliguri Citizens’ Forum today demanded a metropolitan court in the city for the benefit of citizens and administration. Members of the forum who explained the logic behind their demand during a press meet today  said that the issue had already been communicated to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee through the sub divisional officer of Siliguri Siraj Daneswar.
“The CM is visiting Siliguri and hills for a three-day trip. She would be declaring several projects during her trip. We are hopeful that our long standing demand would not escape her notice,” said Prabhas Chandra Banik, chairman of advisory committee of the forum.
Previously all police stations under Siliguri metropolitan police except parts of Bhaktinagar, Phansidewa and Kharibari were considered to be brought under the jurisdiction of the proposed metropolitan court. The forum demanded inclusion of entire Bhaktinagar police station area to the proposed jurisdiction and appealed to the state government to send a team immediately to  visit  the area together with other police stations.
They believe that such a step would help Siliguri metropolitan police also.
The officials of the forum believe that the state government would act upon their plea immediately and the running of the court would not take a long time. (EOIC)
