Congress State President Adhir Chowdhury thanked Bimal Gurung for winning the civic body polls in the Hills.
Speaking at a workers meet in Bidhan Nagar, Chowdhury said Bimal has served a huge blow to Mamata Banerjee’s ego after winning the municipal elections. For this I thank Bimal Gurung.
Ahead of the worker’s meeting, the Congress leader met with reporters. Speaking to the press, he thanked Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) supremo Bimal Gurung for winning the civic body polls in the Hills.
He said both Bimal Gurung and Mamata Banerjee were in a battle in the Hills. The Hills residents were able to exercise their right to vote in peace. This is the reason why Trinamool Congress (TMC) lost in the three municipalities in the Hills.
Furthermore, Chowdhury said demands for a central force had been made here in the plains just like in the Hills. If elections in the plains had been held under the supervision of the central force, TMC would have lost municipal elections in Domkal and Raiganj. The party in power conducted the civic body polls in Mirik under the supervision of the police, hence recording the win, he added.
Later in the evening Choudhery was addressing a public rally at Naxalbari where thousands of Congress workers flocked to listen his speech.
