Dacoits rob trader’s house in Malda

In a daring attempt a gang of dacoits robbed of house of an ex-army employee and scampered away looting jewelries and a huge sum at Sovanagar area under Milky police outpost in English Bazaar police station last night. Robbers also injured Mihir Chowdhury, 61 and his family members. Three of them was admitted to Malda medical college & hospital (MMCH) and released after primary treatment. Police allegedly reached the spot late. Locals agitated and demanded immediate arrest of the robbers.
According to Chowdhury, who is known to be an affluent resident of Sovanagar area said, “The gang of robbers boarded the roof of house and then managed to get passage into the rooms around 12 at night. They burst bombs to scare us and left both of my knees injured. As my wife Smriti, son Sonai and daughter-in-law Trina tried to raise voice to seek attention of neighbours, robbers hit them with butts of pistols.”
“Ravaging the house for about half an hour the dacoits left looting nearly Rs 3 lakh and eight bhoris of gold jewelries,” Chowdhury claimed.
After the dacoits fled, Sonai Chowdhury rushed out to seek help from the neighbours who went to their rescue and admitted them to MMCH.
A team of police rushed to the spot to take stock of situation.
Arnab Ghosh, SP, Malda said, “We have registered a case and searches are on for gang.”
