Five dead, four critically injured in road accident

Five people died while four others were critically injured when a van collided with truck at Kather bridge of Tolpara under Jalpaiguri district this morning.
The van carrying a family who were returning from a marriage party was heading towards Coochbehar from Jalpaiguri met head-in-collision with a truck (Dumper) coming from the opposite direction.
Nine people were inside the van after returning a marriage party when the truck laden with stone chips rammed into it where four persons of the same family died on the spot.
The dead persons have been identified as Jaya Ray (42), Sabita Ray (36), Rajeshwari Ray (43), Joy Ray (12) and Deepshika Ray (13). The other four critically injured has been admitted at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH).
According to Jalpaiguri police the accident might occur due to dense fog and poor visibility in the early hours.
The dead bodies have been brought to NBMCH for postmortem and police have seized the truck and detained its driver.
