GJM to open units in Delhi and Haryana

The  Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) is going to set up two units in Delhi and Haryana, Benoy Tamang, party supremo today announced here.
He made this comment during a media meet at the end of the Chintan Sabha organised by the party at Siliguri.
``We have emerged as a major political party and we want to spread beyond the hills. Hence the decision to move towards the capital of the country,'' Tamang said.
He also said that the party would set up units in Terai, Dooars and Siliguri too.
In all 55 resolutions were passed during the meeting attended by 251 party leaders.
Tamang also announced ex-gratia for the next of kin of 20 people who sacrificed their lives in Gorkhaland agitation since 1986. The amount, yet to be decided, will be given on February 8 on the occasion of Balidan Diwas.
He said, `‘More than 200 people died in 1986 agitation and 20 people lost their lives during agitation launched by Bimal Gurung from 2007 to 2017. Mamata Banerjee government gave away ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh earlier so we have also decided to provide assistance but the amount has not been decided now.''
He also declared February 25 to be celebrated as B R Dewan Smriti Diwas. Dewan has sacrificed his life along with five other workers in first labour movement in 1955 which started from Margret’s Hope Tea Garden.
Tamang also said that a museum will be built where statues and biography of legendary Gorkhas who sacrificed their lives fighting for the nation and of those who earned names in the field of science and technology, sports, entertainment and other fields will be kept.
He said that he will put more emphasis on the benefit of the workers of tea garden and for their land rights.
