Prizes for best eco-friendly puja committees in Siliguri

9 Oct 2018

Siliguri Horticulture Society (SHS) will felicitate  puja organizers of the city considering their active role in encouraging viewers to plant trees with an eye to get rid of pollution.
Nantu Pal, a councilor of Siliguri municipal corporation and secretary of SHS said that concrete buildings were alarmingly mushrooming in the city. “Greeneries are receding and rising environment pollution is now a serious concern,” he said.
“As Durga Puja is the biggest religious festival in the state, it is the right occasion to convey the importance of planting trees to maintain the equilibrium in nature. We have urged the puja committees to take up the issue and convey the urgent need of planting trees through their themes. Those who would do it significantly, would be awarded by SHS,” Pal said.
