RPF to coordinate with porters for upgrading security at stations

14 Mar 2017

In their bid to tighten security at railway stations, the Railway Police Force  and porters (coolies) will be working together from now on. The step is being viewed as an effort to curb crime and unfortunate events from taking place.
Speaking to reporters today, Mohammad Sakib, Senior Security Commissioner, Katihar Division, Northeast Frontier Railway, said station coolies under the Katihar Division will work as informers for the RPF. Those selected as informers will keep a strict vigil within the station premises for unclaimed baggage as well as suspicious persons and anti-socials.
All RPF stations under the Katihar Division will maintain a list of secret coolie informers for their identification and to safeguard their privacy.
Currently, New Jalpaiguri Railway Station has 102 coolies under the RPF. The RPF will select a few of them to work as informers. (EOIC)
