Siliguri: Employees demonstrate after losing job

7 Jul 2017

Tension mounted after 180 employees of a private multinational telecommunications company working near Siliguri have been removed from their job without being served a notice.
The employees on Friday gathered around the customer care office of the company at Teenbatti More, near Siliguri and staged a demonstration against the unannounced lay-off.
Anup Barman, who had been working with the telecommunications company said, “180 employees were laid-off without any notice. Our livelihood is at stake here.”
It has been found that an order to remove 600 employees had been issued by the company. When the company’s Controller Head was asked about the issue, he did not respond to the questions asked by media.
Later police came on the spot to control the situation and convinced the agitators for taking proper steps and look into the matter. (EOIC)
