Siliguri gets tiger pair

1 Jan 2017

The Bengal Safari Park in Siliguri received two tigers on Friday evening – the first by the park. The male, Snehasish, and the tigress, Shila are about two years old and were shipped from Alipore Zoo in Kolkata.

The park’s newest members will be able to roam freely in a separate enclosure built on an 28-acre area within the park.

Also known as Bengal Safari: North Bengal Wild Animals Park, the park has been built over an area covering 700 acres within the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary.

According to sources, the park is likely to start a breeding programme to further enhance the tiger population.

It is hoped the tigers are able to live normally in the enclosure. Visitors to the park can see the majestic animals from the safety of their vehicles. (EOIC)
