Trinamool Congress councilors of Siliguri municipal corporation (SMC) sat in demonstration in front of the office of the Mayor Asok Bhattacharya today protesting against alleged scam in ‘housing for all’ scheme and LED installation in the city.
The demonstration was led by Ranjan Sarkar, a Trinamool councilor and the opposition leader in SMC.
“We would be sitting at the door of the Mayor’s office to expose the misappropriation of fund by the Left Front run SMC,” Sarkar said.
He said that housing for all scheme was introduced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to provide roof to people without a proper house. “The fund was sanctioned for 2900 beneficiaries living at SMC areas. But the LF run SMC board has indulged in a scam by including additional names to the list of beneficiaries,” Sarkar said.
“Similar corruption occurred in installing LEDs across the city. Only a proper probe would reveal the formidable scams by the Mayor and his board,” the opposition leader said.
“The Mayor often alleges that the state government deprived SMC of its dues because it is run by the Left Front. Now, it has been revealed that the SMC board instead of utilizing the fund misappropriates it,” Sarkar said.
Asok Bhattacharya, Mayor said, “Opposition councilors have their right to organize movements. But even they know personally that SMC is being run transparently by Left Front.” (EOIC)
