Tusker kills retired tea-garden employee

A retired tea-garden employee was killed by a tusker at New Chamta tea-garden this morning. Akshay Deb Singha, (65) was attacked by the jumbo while he was walking in the tea-garden in morning as a part of his daily exercise. It has been learnt from sources that Deb Singha, while walking, suddenly found the tusker at a stone throwing distance. When he took an about turn out of scare and started rushing away, the tusker reportedly chased him too. The aged man fell down after being stumbled on a hard article. The tusker picked him up with its trunk and threw down twice to leave him seriously injured. The locals rescued him in a critically injured position and sent him to hospital. Later, the injured was sent to North Bengal medical college & hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police sent the body for autopsy. (EOIC)
