Picture show a private transport vehicle openly violating the GoI instructions on carriage of construction materials. A sweeping ban imposed on transport of steel and other construction materials protruding beyond the body frame notwithstanding, the violation continues unabated in the city and other parts of the islands. The Government of India, vide a gazette notification issued in the month of March 2014, has banned vehicles from carrying rods, pipes or any protruding materials beyond the body frame. The Road Transport Ministry has deleted the provision in the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) that allowed protrusions up to one metre and deleted Section 93 of CMVR 1989, which allowed goods vehicles to carry poles or rods or indivisible load “So long as the projecting part or parts do not exceed the distance of one metre beyond the rear most point of the motor vehicle”.
